Description

"Contra spem spero" translates from Latin as "Without hope I hope".

An homage to one of the strongest women of Ukraine past and present times, the poetess of the 19th century - Lesya Ukrainka. It is an eponym for the poem she wrote in 1890, when she was 19 years old. Since childhood she had been ill with bone tuberculosis. It was at this time that life seemed to put a choice before her: to be conquered by a severe illness (and not just physically) or to win.

The visual piece is about power and courage born of struggle. About how despite difficult circumstances we grow this flower of freedom.
Blue and yellow are the colors of the Ukrainian flag, the colors of courage, freedom and endless indestructibility.
Red symbolizes blood and struggle.

Lesya Ukrainka to me is a symbol of real inner power and hope.
This is what every Ukrainian should find in his heart right now.
