Digital Narcissism

Description

This viral video selfie, filmed in a very provocative way, is a portrait of a stereotypical self-absorbed millennial. Whether you yourself are a millennial or a Gen Z, no doubt, you’ve been accused of posting too many selfies, overindulging in social media or may be even of narcissism, vanity, inflated self-esteem, and attention seeking. All these are pretty much extreme expressions of western individualistic society where self love has been turned into an intrusive cultural mantra. Yet, it’s not as bad as it seems. First of all, around 75% of us consider themselves better than the others, so narcissism is totally normal. But we should draw the line between not so healthy and healthy narcissism. The latter does let us feel important and unique, yes. But it doesn’t affect the ability to feel empathy or to admit flaws or faults. Apart, let’s remember, narcissism can also be a source of positive stuff like equality and tolerance. So, everything in moderation, babies;)
