Nashaki: “I was rescued when I was 10 years old. When I was in class 5 my father had arranged for me to marry a 55-year-old man; I was to be his fourth wife… My heart sank as I knew I would be forced to undergo FGM. I cried every day as my marriage proceedings were happening. Fortunately, the man who was supposed to marry me was arrested and I was sent to the girls’ center. In this world without education you cannot go anywhere. I want to complete secondary school and join university. I pray that I will pass with flying colors so that I can get a scholarship. I pray I will study outside of Kenya and that I can become a doctor, my passion.”
Nashaki was one of five teenage survivor delegates to represent TYTW at the 2019 Nairobi Summit, and participated in TYTW’s SRH training with Amref Health Africa in 2020.
She spoke in TYTW’s special Public Service Announcement radio campaign to address COVID-related increases in gender-based violence in 2020.
