Planet Halcyon, as it's named by the native colonists, is an earth-like planet in a densely populated solar system with twenty-six other planets orbiting Barnard's Star, a red dwarf about six light-years from Earth in the constellation of Ophiuchus. Located closely to Endor, it is about 4 times bigger than Earth and is mainly a desert rocky planet.

When nutrients are scarce, many organisms have methods of storing those nutrients for times of need. Some have become so specialized in this they can go for very long times without the need of additonal water, to then stock up when nutrients are available. The colonies were established around those few spots around the planet where water exist on the surface.
