The Hannya mask depicts a woman devoured by her rage who becomes a vengeful demon because of the great affection and passion she has for the love of her life. Hannya comes from the word Panna/Prajna which means “wisdom” or “higher consciousness” in Japanese Buddhism.

This artwork is a representation of me - the armor and callouses that have built up over time. It has kept me from being warm and loving towards myself and building a bridge to connect me with others. Now I have become quite a sensitive person and I feel I have to protect myself. I’ve become a warrior. All these life lessons have grown into wisdom.
