Description

This image depicts a scene from the Dunhuang murals, which refer to the Buddhist paintings of the inner walls of the Dunhuang grottoes in China and belong to the World Cultural Heritage. Dunhuang murals cover a total area of more than 50,000 square meters, including the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, the West Thousand-Buddha Cave, Anxi Yulin Cave, and other 522 grotto murals throughout the ages. They are huge in scale, exquisite in workmanship, rich in content, and wide in subject matter.

The Dunhuang murals depict images, activities, the relationships between gods, and how gods relate to humans, giving good wishes and comforting people.

To simulate the original fresco techniques, mineral powder pigments are mixed with a special glue to create water pigments, which are then applied to the canvas with a stiff brush. After the work is completed, a layer of glue is needed to prevent the paint from falling off.
