In June 2019, I traveled alone to eastern New Mexico and west Texas to chase giant supercell storms. I was apprehensive of doing this on my own as the dangers from chasing supercells include heavy winds, damaging hail, and possible tornadoes. On this June 1st day near Orla, Texas, I carefully navigated directly in the path of an oncoming mothership supercell. With only minutes to spare, I captured this shot as well as a timelapse video of the storm moving towards me while backlit by a setting sun. I barely managed to flee south of the storm and was still hit by strong rear flank downdraft (RFD) winds but was able to make a safe escape. This was the moment I proved to myself and anyone who didn't believe in me that I could chase extreme weather.
