Nandi is the vehicle or mount of Lord Shiva. He is the main gate-guardian deity of Kailash, the rugged homestead of Shiva. Almost all Shiva temple's all over the world have a stone carving of his mount in a comfortable sitting posture facing the direction of Shiva.
