“Pantai Merah” is the third of three images that comprise “The Genesis Series”.

Each of the images in this body of work represents a pivotal point in my creative career.

• “Pantai Merah” was captured in December 2020 at the Pink Beach on a trip to East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. This photography trip marked the turning point, of personally and creatively breaking out of a challenging pandemic slump.

This was my third visit in three years to the Komodo National Park, but my first time seeing it beautifully lush. The landscape changes dramatically throughout the year, so I found new inspiration returning to an entirely changed scene.

I was at the pink beach, flying my drone framing my shot when I saw a yellow dinghy leave the shoreline. I quickly flew closer to its path and aligned a frame as fast as I could.

It’s one of those images that definitely could have been planned, but is so much rewarding because it wasn’t.
