WHAT IS BUDDY DOG THINKING?

This first exhibition by the Buddy Dog Foundation presents two artists close to Buddy Dog: LUCAS ZANOTTO and DANIEL PALILLO.

The exhibition runs simultaneously in real life as well as the digital space, as it opens up at (PLACE) by method art gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo on the evening of 29th February.

“It's a dog eats dog food life, what can you say.”

LUCAS ZANOTTO

THE ARTISTS:

LUCAS ZANOTTO

Lucas Zanotto an Italian artist, is a master of digital art and hypnotic loops. He has created a set of works titled ‘DOGGO’ to commemorate his relationship with Buddy Dog. The artworks reflect the never-ending nature of questioning, just like Buddy Dog.

“What's a dog to wear these days?”

DANIEL PALILLO

DANIEL PALILLO

Daniel Palillo is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. He gained global recognition as an avant-garde fashion designer through his eponymous fashion line from 2006 to 2015. His eccentric designs have gained a cult-like following. Palillo’s creations have been worn by celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Wiz Khalifa, Hercules & Love Affair, and numerous K-pop superstars. To celebrate his relationship with Buddy Dog, Daniel has created digital art and a set of clothes and vinyl statues of Buddy Dog. When one purchases an NFT or a vinyl statue, one also becomes the owner the other. This symbolises the union of the digital and real worlds, which is so eminent in our current day.

ABOUT BUDDY DOG:

Buddy Dog is a small town dog, who set off to Hollywood to pursue a career as a character with his trusted childhood friend and manager Fluffy. They failed drastically.

Buddy and Fluffy relocated to Tokyo and met Kitty Cat through the darker side of anime productions.

Eventually they hit rock bottom somewhere in the shady back alleys of Shinjuku, after which they formed a not so successful jazz trio.

Around that time Buddy Dog disappeared for years for a retreat on Mt. Koya in Japan, where he is rumoured to have become enlightened.

Buddy, Fluffy and Kitty Cat have since relocated back to California, where they are suspected to be starting a cult. Yet they are also rumoured to be still in Tokyo.

An investigative journalist has been digging into their shady back- ground and snippets of her investigations have begun circling the web.

Buddy Dog keeps gathering followers and sceptics, who all seem to dwell around just one simple question:

What is Buddy Dog Thinking?

Everybody knows, that Buddy Dog knows, but what Buddy Dog knows, no one knows.

Buddy’s answers, almost like zen-buddhist koans, seem to provide more questions than answers.

We’ve probably all stumbled upon one of the most famous of Zen-koans: ‘what is the sound of one hand clapping’. and possibly everyone has at some point in their lives met a person, who seems to have the answer to this question, and actually pretty much the answers to all questions. However, the answers that this kind of a person provides, not so much just turn the table, but even more so, take you out of the house, into the woods and leave you sitting in a bit of confusion – like all proper guru answers do. So it seems that Buddy’s teaching is just like any other, when he encourages you to look for the answer in yourself.

Everybody knows, that Buddy Dog knows, but what Buddy Dog knows, no one knows.

So the question is – What is Buddy Dog Thinking?

Our whole universe is wrapped around this very question and Buddy Dog is the enlightened guru, who is the only one, who could answer the question, which he never does –or does he?

As a patron of the arts. Buddy's foundation is a place to come and for art revolving around Buddy Dog's thoughts and teachings.
