La Pomme 🍎
An enduring symbol since the beginning of recorded history, depicted in ancient Greek pottery, renaissance masterpieces, and now in modern times associated with one of the most valuable companies on earth, the apple is both simple in its beauty and complex in meaning.
Ancient cultures exalted the apple as a source of immortality, eternal youth, happiness, wealth and power, and in more religious contexts as an object of temptation and original sin.
More recently the apple has become a powerful symbol of consumerism and globalist capitalism. Paul Cezanne famously said, ‘With an apple I want to astonish Paris’, and as humans have elevated and depicted this fruit throughout history, once again we wish to explore the remarkable nature of the apple in this new exhibition and astonish a new audience.
