I shot this surreal scene during a 4 day canoe expedition in Maligne lake, Alberta a few years ago. It sat on my hard drive as I wasn't happy with my edits.

We were hoping for clear skies to shoot the milky way during that expedition, but wild fires got so bad we had to rush out and paddle 22km in one day as the sky was covered in smoke, ashes started falling all over the lake and breathing became challenging. On our way back we stopped to take a few shots as the faded mountains looked completely different than what you'd normally see. They ended up being my all time favourite photos from this location.
