I woke up before the others, like always. I'm equally rested and restless in the alpine; my brain mends while my body craves the summit. I stepped out of the tent to watch a wild fog pour over the ridgeline and fill the lower valley of our campsite. It called me to follow it up and over the hill. As I reached the upper lake, the fog split open to reveal the peak we would summit later that day, resting quietly between the water and moon.
