The environment in which I grew up really influenced and shaped my artistic style and genre in photography that I like.

As children, my brother and I would frequently experience power outages in the Philippines, especially during storms. We would gather in my grandmother's living room or bedroom, where some candles were lit, and we would sit cozily on the sofa or bed, listening to her stories about mythical creatures, which inspired this image.

In Philippine mythology, Diwatas are believed to protect forests. These mythical creatures are invoked ritually for positive crop growth, health and fortune.

Creating fantastical images brings back fond memories, where I would daydream and feel comforted at the same time while listening to my Nanay’s (grandmother) voice. This is the main reason why I find photography and post-processing so therapeutic.
