In Mid-June, I decided to enter uncharted territory and go beyond my comfort zone by exploring the idea of an artist raise instead of looking for funding and servicing via the traditional label route. The reason I initially looked into this form of funding was because major labels (and Indies), publishing companies, and distributors aren’t as efficient as they should be. One company deals with the composition of a record, another company deals with publishing, etc…This type of infrastructure usually only benefits a small percentage of artists in the first place and I felt that being able to fund my career in a way that allowed me to recruit and hire my ideal team to service my career would be a better alternative navigating the music industry versus trying to fit into an outdated infrastructure/model that has a reputation for being predatory.
