THE NIGHT

This new collection of four unique works is a masterful homage to La Nuit.

Written just a year after the death of his wife, Nicole, The Night (La Nuit) is one of the most personal, harrowing comics ever created. It tells the tale of a drug-addicted, post-apocalyptic biker gang on a doomed quest for the ultimate high. A sense of suffocating nihilism and frustrated rage permeates the story, with dialogue so terse it makes Frank Miller comics sound positively verbose. Visually stunning, its depiction of murderous bikers was a huge influence on the Mad Max series of films, especially the most recent Fury Road. A raw, powerful, unforgettable comic where an emotionally vulnerable creator uses art to process his grief.

The female warrior is a character from this dark tale, and  yet she exudes a fascinating sense of grace, beauty and serenity in the midst of indescribable chaos and extreme savagery. She embodies the contrast of Philippe creations, which have always combined ultra-violence with a sense of harmony and refinement in his very complex and detailed compositions.

She is depicted with her towering, skeletal armor and intricate designs. She is a powerful embodiment of Druillet’s universe—a perfect balance of strength and fragility, chaos and beauty.

For collectors, this NFT isn’t just a digital token, it’s a gateway to one of Druillet’s most iconic narratives, where every detail of the warrior’s form and surroundings tells a story of resilience, rebellion, and cosmic mystery.

The Night is a meditation on the human condition, and our place in the universe. The Night is a visual exploration of the themes that define Druillet's work: the interplay between light and darkness, the tension between creation and destruction, and the eternal struggle of the individual against the vast, indifferent cosmos.

Surrounded by destruction and outright violence, the female warrior faces a dilemma against a universe that is vast, indifferent, and fundamentally unknowable. Four destinies await her.

Four futures : Creation. Destruction. Unity. Silence.

Welcome to Philippe Druillet's world.

Philippe’s world combines science fiction, fantasy, and mythology, creating visually striking compositions that challenge conventional notions of reality.

His epic and monumental scenes, featuring vast cityscapes, towering structures, and sprawling landscapes that convey a sense of scale and grandiosity, also incorporate psychedelic elements such as swirling patterns, kaleidoscopic colors, and surreal distortitions.

His compositions endure as mesmerizing and mind-bending visuals that evoke altered states of consciousness.

Philippe is recognized for his significant contributions to comics, particularly in the realm of graphic storytelling and sequential art. His iconic series, such as "Lone Sloane" and "The Night" have influenced generations of artists and writers with their innovative narrative structures and avant-garde aesthetics.

The baroque aesthetic of his illustrations, with ornate designs, elaborate patterns, and a rich color palette, evoke a sense of grandeur and opulence.

George Lucas, George Miller, Ridley Scott or Denis Villeneuve are among the movie directors influenced by Philippe, partly because of his cinematic approach, using dynamic angles, dramatic lighting, and cinematic framing techniques to imbue his illustrations with a sense of movement and narrative tension.
