This piece is part of my Levitation series consisting of floating figures that are metaphors for consciousness and awareness depicted in weightless bodies. The levitation is a representation of being in a state of flow, of higher self-awareness, living in a purpose.

Uncommon Beacon’s title is referencing the levitating weightless woman as an uncommon or remarkable beacon, a positive manifestation. Uncommon Beacon’s subject matter is a levitating woman floating over Boston Common with Beacon Hill Brownstones in the background.

The piece’s composition has a floating woman as the centerpiece. The background is created in a curvilinear perspective, mimicking the natural curvature of vision. The larger visible brush strokes creating the trees and buildings appear loose and quick in contrast to the rendering of the figure that is more refined and more illustrative. This was done to put the focus on the flying, floating figure and emphasize the weightless feeling.
