I took this photo on Long Island's North Fork in January of 2018.
Most people have heard the phrase "red sky at night sailors delight; red sky in the morning sailors take warning".
There is sound science behind this old adage. The colors we see in the sky result from sun rays splitting into individual colors as they come in contact with atmospheric particles. Because red wavelengths are the longest in the spectrum, they do the best job of cutting through thicker atmospheres.
As weather typically moves west to east, a high concentration of particles means high pressure and stable air are coming from the west. When a red sky comes at sunrise, a high pressure system has already passed and a low pressure system, potentially carrying a storm, could be moving in from the east.
This red sky came at sunset, which I hope means that it will bring smooth seas and good fortune to whoever purchases the photo!
I will gift a physical print + custom-built frame to the purchaser of the NFT.
