Venus is a Goddess whose functions encompass love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory.

As a female filmmaker and feminist, I have been exploring the female gaze for quite a while. I decided to explore blood as seen from a female gaze. Since we are little, we are told, blood is dirty and something bad. I gave birth at home to my two daughters, and this involved a lot of blood. We also kept their placentas and even did blood prints of them as to conserve memory of my daughters’ genetic twins. Our period, as women, is a blessing. I wanted to stress the positive aspect of blood as life giver. This is why I am honoring the color red. In this particular photograph, Venus has come out of the sea and blood pours out of her in sign of power and victory.
