Oceanica is a queen of the ocean. She comes out of the sea every month and dyes the coast with the red of her blood streaming out of her body. The blood gives life and light.
As a female filmmaker and feminist, I have been exploring the female gaze for quite a while. I am particularly interested in the camera's relationship with the female body. I decided to visualize blood from a female gaze. Since we are little, we are told that blood is dirty and something bad. I gave birth at home to my two daughters, and this involved a lot of blood. We also kept their placentas and even did blood prints of them as to conserve memory of my daughters’ genetic twins. Our period, as women, is a blessing. I want to stress the positive aspect of blood as life giver. This is why in "Red Power" I honor the color red.
