After arriving in complete darkness at the remote little hamlet of Shingle Street, UK, in the midst of a large storm, it seemed that the journey would be wasted. Then miraculously, just as the sun rose above the horizon, the clouds parted, illuminating the coastguard's cottages in intense light against the brooding sky for a few magical minutes.
This image was highly commended in the Outdoor Photographer of the Year awards, and is one of my most cherished images.
