The Honu Collection #10: The Coming Wave

In the late afternoon at Laniakea Beach on Oahu's North Shore, you can often expect to find the endangered Hawaiian green sea turtle coming ashore for a rest. This afternoon, however, I found one feasting on the shallow and slippery reef. I gingerly walked out beside her and as she kept an eye on me, I captured the wave rushing in. A few careful steps later, I was sitting beside her on the reef. Luckily (I think?), I landed on my back and managed to keep the camera from splashing into the water.

The Honu Collection is curated from almost 20 years living in Hawaii. I photographed these Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.

I volunteer with several non-profits focused on education, conservation, and outreach for Hawaii’s endangered wildlife, including Mālama i nā Honu, which works with these Honu.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to Mālama i nā Honu to provide resources for their conservation efforts. This helps ensure that these beautiful green sea turtles are around for future generations to experience.
