'Her Roots' has elements of Flamboyan trees which is commonly found in Dominican folk art. The use of Flamboyan trees, the wooden homes and the river is a reccurring subject within Dominican art. I included these elements to honor my culture and it's rich history. In the line art journey, my culture is as important as every line in this piece. It's as much part of me. My mother always surrounded me with beautiful cultural paintings, which are engraved in my heart and my art. I ran from these elements in my pieces to pursue less traditional dominican art. Inevitably it caught up with me. My father's reminder of that beautiful flamboyan tree struck me and I could not walk away from it. 'Her Roots' are born from memories of my beautiful culture.
