The Monster Me Icon series first came out of the need to create an anonymous online persona. During the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic, a sharp rise in Asian xenophobia started presenting itself. I would scour local message boards, google reviews, to Facebook groups trying to debunk all/any misconceptions people may have had about the virus. I felt an obligation as an Asian American, with decent English proficiency, to say something. Anything.
