Volcanic Hues.
This image was shot during my employment at GNS Science as a Goethermal Chemist in New Zealand. I arrived at this scene bit early for a planned astrosession, but to be amazed by this pink skies. This is the Tongariro volcanic complex of many volcanic cones and craters in the central north island of New Zealand. The largest mountain on the right is Mt.Ruapehu and the tall cone in the middle is Mt.Ngauruhoe aka Mt.Doom of the LOTR movie. The shattered peak on the left is Mt.Tongariro which is the most active volcano in the complex. No photograph can do justice to this alien landscape, the scale of this place is just unimaginable !
