Space Flamingo was inspired by a visit to a wildlife sanctuary that had a group of flamingos unbothered by the humans watching them, and thriving within the habitat.
They were wading in the ponds in search of food, turning their heads upside down to filter feed. For a brief moment, I imagined flamingos in space.
Flamingos get their beautiful pink color from the krill that they eat. Additionally, they make their nests out of mud.
Spending time learning about these magnificent birds caused me to reflect on how diverse and magnificent nature is. It also caused me to think about the influence and interdependency that all living things have upon each other like the krill and the flamingos. My observations and reflections of the flamingos inspired me to create this special piece.
