During the Chechnya war, I came across the three women in the photo in the Vedeno mountains, a few days after a Russian bombardment which had almost completely destroyed their village.
Years of war had changed their lives. They never heard from their husbands who had joined the separatists from the first days of the war.
Their villages were constantly bombarded by Russian planes and helicopters. There were almost no men left in the village, and the three widows were trying to hold on to life with the strength they got from each other. What are these women doing today, did they survive?
