Ubatuba, Brazil. 1957. A reader submits a story and materials to a newspaper, claiming to have seen a flying disk while fishing. The disk approaches the beach as if to crash, then climbs, but finally explodes, raining materials onto the beach and sea. Analysis reveals mostly magnesium, with some finding unusual isotope ratios, suggesting the material has been engineered. The material also contains a puzzling strontium impurity. The date of this event is still in dispute.

For decades, people around the world have reported sightings of UFOs, sometimes accompanied by artifacts allegedly left behind. Some of these have been submitted to laboratories for analysis, with the data now available for conceptual analysis.

Bogotá, Colombia. 1975 or 76. 4:00 a.m. Two university students hear a metallic sound and spot a disk about 12 feet wide, apparently in distress. Four other objects come to assist the disk, which then ejects hot liquid material onto the rain-soaked pavement. The objects fly into the clouds. The witnesses wait for the material to cool before collecting samples. Analysis finds aluminum, with phosphorus, iron, and other elements. The sample does not contain water or fluoride, an unusual omission for aluminum productions.

Bogotá, Colombia (1975/6)

Pahrump, Nye County, Nevada. Art Bell’s radio studio. 1996. An anonymous Army Sergeant begins mailing late night radio host Art Bell metals and a story alleging the recovery, involving the mailer’s grandfather, of a downed wedge-shaped craft in the late 1940s in New Mexico’s White Sands Proving Ground. The samples were taken off the glowing underside of the craft. The pieces are curved and tapered, composed of layers of alternating bismuth and magnesium-zinc.

The phrase "You're gonna need a bigger boat" is a line from the 1975 film Jaws, spoken by the character Chief Brody when he first sees the size of the shark they are hunting. It became a catchphrase for anytime anything went wrong.

It could be used as a metaphor for any situation where one is confronted with something much larger and more powerful than oneself. Overall, the phrase "You're gonna need a bigger boat" has the power to convey a sense of awe and humility, and can be used to reflect on the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

"After the Cave" is a piece of generative art that was inspired by my encounters with indigenous art in a museum. Paul Klee's quote, "taking a line for a walk," resonated with me as I used algorithms to create pulsating lines. The piece explores the beauty that can be created by blending mundane and imaginative elements. It represents my fascination with generative art and the endless possibilities technology provides for creative expression.
