All my life I’ve dreamed of seeing the Northern Lights. When I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I never imagined I’d be able to see them in my own backyard. I always expected that I’d have to travel to Alaska or Iceland to see the Aurora. You always hear stories about people seeing them further south, but it’s always “once in a lifetime” stories that never seem to line up with your own life.
When I heard there would be a G2 storm coming as far south as Oregon, I wasn’t quite sure if I truly believed it. After a tough week mentally, it pushed me to leave the sadness behind and go outside in search of the perfect scene to observe the Northern Lights. It was everything I had dreamed of and more.
An explosion of color danced in the sky. With each image I took, I became filled with the wonder of my surroundings. In that moment, nothing else mattered. I shivered, unbothered, through the cold for hours. It was right in front of me, the magic I'd always been searching for.
